A facelift is one of the most powerful tools to restore your facial beauty. It can visibly reduce wrinkles and improve skin laxity, creating a youthful and attractive facial contour. The name does not do justice to this procedure, as it not just merely “lifts” facial skin, but restores facial shape by moving tissue to its “youthful” position. For example, repositioning of the jowl fat not only helps to restore good contour of the jawline, but also aids in achieving a pleasing fullness in upper cheek area.
When I perform a facelift my aesthetic goal is to create a rejuvenated appearance by restoring attractive neck angle, and creating a youthful contour of the jawline. Above all, a facelift result should always appear natural and the facial contour well balanced.
There is no one facelift technique that fits all. Each procedure is individually tailored for each patient’s facial structures and extent of aging. This individualized, targeted approach allows achieving utmost rejuvenation in a minimally invasive fashion.
The procedure begins with making incisions (sorry, there is just no other way). The incisions are typically hidden in the natural skin creases, underneath the chin, around the ears, and along the hairline, making them inconspicuous. Once healed, facelift incisions become all but impossible to notice.
A facelift is often performed in conjunction with liposculpting. Many people benefit from reduction in fat content in the area of the neck and jowls, others might need just a slight re-contouring. Once excessive fat is removed, facial tissue under the skin is repositioned and secured in place with multiple sutures. Most commonly, the direction of pull is upward and slightly backward. This allows achieving long lasting reduction of skin laxity and helps restoring desired facial contour. The excess skin is then removed and skin edges are brought together with sutures specially designed for plastic surgery.
Take some personal time after the procedure to allow for good healing. The time required for healing after the facelift varies from patient to patient. As a general rule people with slim faces recover faster than people with full faces. Also, healing time is directly related to the extent of the procedure. On average, I would advise to set aside one week of personal time for recovery. You should be looking forward to looking more beautiful then ever. Keep your spirits up, be positive, enjoy your time off and you will be surprised how remarkably fast your body will heal itself from a facelift procedure.
